NDLEA Intercepts International Drug Shipments, Arrests Two Suspects

The NDLEA intercepted drug shipments bound for the U.S., Saudi Arabia, Italy, Poland, and the UAE, arresting two suspects. Seized drugs included cocaine, tramadol, and cannabis, cleverly concealed in various items. The agency continues its War Against Drug Abuse campaigns across Nigeria to educate the public and combat drug trafficking.
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) successfully intercepted drug shipments attempted by drug trafficking organizations (DTOs) targeting Nigeria to five international destinations, specifically the United States, Saudi Arabia, Italy, Poland, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). NDLEA spokesman Femi Babafemi detailed that the seized drugs included cocaine, tramadol, and other narcotics, which were concealed ingeniously within innocuous items such as prayer beads and women’s clothing.
Babafemi reported the arrest of at least two suspects linked to these attempts. A 43-year-old businesswoman was apprehended at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) while attempting to board a flight to Italy. Her luggage contained 190 parcels of tramadol as well as cannabis, which she allegedly intended to sell upon arrival in Italy.
Another arrest was made on March 11 when a 60-year-old suspect tried to ship a package disguised as clothing to New York. Within this package, NDLEA officers discovered 400 grams of cannabis concealed among the garments. The operations at MMIA resulted in further interceptions of over two kilograms of drugs including tramadol and other substances, concealed cleverly in Vitamin C bottles and clothing.
Between March 10 and March 12, seizures also included 230 grams of cocaine hidden in prayer beads and shoe soles intended for Saudi Arabia, Poland, and the UAE. Despite ongoing enforcement activities, the NDLEA continues its War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) sensitization campaigns across the nation, emphasizing the need for public awareness and education regarding drug-related issues.
The NDLEA has effectively disrupted multiple drug trafficking attempts by intercepting significant shipments intended for international markets. Key arrests highlight the agency’s proactive measures in targeting DTO operations. Ongoing public sensitization campaigns are also crucial in combating drug abuse and trafficking in Nigeria. Through these efforts, the NDLEA underscores its commitment to curbing drug-related crimes and safeguarding public health.
