Toyota Tops List of Most Stolen Vehicles in Kenya for 2024

In 2024, 54.91% of stolen vehicles in Kenya were Toyotas, according to an AKI report. Other notable thefts involved makes such as Isuzu (12.88%), Mazda (7.06%), Nissan (5.83%), and Mitsubishi (3.99%). Overall, vehicle thefts declined by 28% from 419 in 2023 to 327 in 2024.

According to a report from the Association of Kenyan Insurers (AKI), Toyota vehicles are the most frequently stolen in Kenya. The data covers the period from January 1, 2024, to December 31, 2024, showing that 54.91% of stolen vehicles were Toyotas.

In addition to Toyotas, the report identifies other commonly targeted vehicle makes. Isuzu recorded 12.88% of thefts, while Mazda accounted for 7.06%. Nissan and Mitsubishi followed with 5.83% and 3.99%, respectively.

Overall, the report indicates a total of 327 motor vehicles were reported stolen in 2024. This number represents a substantial decline of 28% from the previous year’s total of 419 vehicles, suggesting improved vehicle security measures.

The AKI report highlights that Toyota vehicles are the most targeted for theft in Kenya, accounting for over half of all stolen vehicles in 2024. The overall decline in vehicle thefts by 28% compared to 2023 indicates progress in vehicle security efforts across the country.
