Teenage Illegal Miner Sentenced for Theft in Tarkwa

The Tarkwa District Court has sentenced 19-year-old Enoch Buamah to three months of hard labor for stealing valuables worth GH¢7,563.00. During proceedings, Inspector of Police Patrick Essien informed the court that the complainant, Patricia Kyei, a hairdresser, reported the burglary. Kyei’s residence, located on the outskirts of Nyametease in the Prestea Huni-Valley Municipality, was left locked while she attended an event on December 11, 2024.
Upon returning on March 12, 2024, Kyei discovered her home had been broken into, with extensive damage to the inner door lock valued at GH¢1,000. Among the stolen items were a television, cooking utensils, clothing, and other personal belongings totaling GH¢7,563.00.
The complainant alerted the local task force. Their investigation led to Buamah, who confessed and guided them to his home, where the stolen goods were recovered. He was subsequently arrested and handed over to the police, who completed the investigation and charged him accordingly.
Enoch Buamah’s case highlights the legal repercussions of theft, especially in illegal mining contexts. His guilty plea resulted in a three-month concurrent sentence, reflecting the justice system’s stance against theft.
