Eddie Jordan, Renowned Formula 1 Team Owner, Passes Away at 76

Eddie Jordan, former Formula 1 team owner, has passed away at 76 after battling cancer. Known for leading Jordan Grand Prix to key victories and debuting Michael Schumacher, he later became a respected F1 pundit. He is survived by his wife and four children.
Eddie Jordan has died at the age of 76 after fighting prostate and bladder cancer. He had kept his diagnosis private while undergoing treatment throughout 2024. His family announced his passing, noting he died peacefully in Cape Town on March 20, 2025, surrounded by loved ones.
Jordan was well-known as the owner of Jordan Grand Prix, which competed in Formula 1 from 1991 to 2005, notably with Michael Schumacher debuting at the 1991 Belgian Grand Prix. Before entering F1, he successfully managed a junior racing team, including Martin Brundle in British F3 against Ayrton Senna.
His first grand prix victory as a team boss came in 1998 at the Belgian Grand Prix, where Damon Hill won after team orders restricted Ralf Schumacher from passing him. In 1999, he made a strong push for the championship with driver Heinz-Harald Frentzen, who won two races before finishing third in the standings, marking a peak for the team.
However, Jordan’s team faced difficulties after losing a Honda engine deal for 2002, leading him to sell to Alex Shnaider in 2005. The team continued under different names, eventually becoming Aston Martin.
After leaving the team, Jordan transitioned into a pundit role, first with the BBC when they regained F1 broadcasting rights in 2009. He was instrumental in predicting Lewis Hamilton’s move to Mercedes prior to its official announcement and shifted to Channel 4 after the BBC lost the rights in 2016. In 2023, he launched a podcast titled “Formula for Success” with David Coulthard.
Jordan is survived by his wife Marie and their four children. Condolences have poured in from the motorsport community as they remember his contributions and legacy in Formula 1.
Eddie Jordan’s impact on Formula 1 was profound, transitioning from team owner to a respected pundit. His notable achievements include discovering young talent and guiding a team to significant victories.
