On March 30, 2025, Akatsi South in the Volta Region experienced a severe rainstorm, resulting in widespread destruction and leaving many residents homeless. The storm, which started around 6 PM, damaged infrastructure, including houses, shops, and electric poles, and completely uprooted trees and billboards. Tourists and local news teams reported seeing significant structural damage, with numerous buildings partially or completely collapsed.

Residents expressed their distress and helplessness to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), highlighting their immediate need for materials to rebuild. One individual remarked, “What we need now is roofing sheets, iron rods, and a lot to fix our houses and shops back.”

In response to the disaster, Mr. Daniel Dagba, the Municipal Chief Executive nominee, called for urgent government assistance for the affected individuals. He also noted that interventions from the local Member of Parliament are anticipated to support the recovery efforts in the community.
