The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) reported that three officers were hospitalized with gunshot wounds after a raid in Abuja. NDLEA spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, stated that the attack occurred in the Jahi area of the Federal Capital Territory during a bust on an unfinished building, following received intelligence and surveillance data.
The raid yielded significant drug recoveries, including 74 codeine bottles, 10 liters of codeine syrup, 48 grams of tramadol (225 mg), 4.9 kilograms of skunk, and five Android phones. As the NDLEA team exited the premise, they came under fire, resulting in injuries to three officers—one sustained a gunshot wound to the rib, while two others were shot in the back and leg.
The injured officers were stabilized first at the Police Clinic in Garki Area 1 before transferring to the National Hospital in Abuja for further medical attention. NDLEA Chairman, Buba Marwa, expressed appreciation for the quick response from the police clinic staff and the Chief Medical Director of the National Hospital, who oversaw treatment after being contacted. Marwa, while on duty in Kano, communicated with the injured officers to wish them well and assured that the agency would collaborate with other security forces to pinpoint and arrest the attackers.
