Isaac Kuria, a primary suspect in the assassination of Kasipul MP Charles Ong’ondo Were, has been arrested near the Kenya-Tanzania border. His capture follows an extensive investigation that has resulted in 11 individuals being detained, including the late MP’s bodyguard and driver. Detectives are analyzing communications and financial connections to further understand the motives behind the murder.

In a significant development regarding the assassination of Kasipul MP Charles Ong’ondo Were, a key suspect has been arrested. This suspect, Isaac Kuria, also known as “Kush,” was captured in the border town of Isebania, near Tanzania. His apprehension comes after he allegedly attempted to flee the country following the daylight shooting incident that occurred on Nairobi’s Valley Road.

Kuria is now considered the triggerman in what investigators believe was a premeditated killing. Sources indicate he trailed Were in the Nairobi central business district before ambushing him in traffic. This methodical approach highlights the seriousness of the plot against Were, who was shot fatally.

After the murder, Kuria reportedly fled to Mihang’o where he disposed of the weapon—a pistol recovered later by police. He then made his way through Narok on a motorbike, eventually taking public transport to Isbania. Authorities suspect he was in contact with relatives across the border, planning his escape together.

Detectives were onto Kuria before his arrest, intercepting communications with other suspects already in custody. A senior officer noted that this led to his capture just as he was staying at a lodging in Isebania. Alongside Kuria, another individual was also arrested, bringing the total number of suspects held in connection with the MP’s murder to 11.

Those previously apprehended include Were’s personal bodyguard, Allan Omondi, and his driver, Walter Owino. Investigators also have under scrutiny individuals like businessman Phillip Aroko and Lake Basin Development Authority head Ebel Ochieng. Allegations suggest both were financially involved in planning Were’s assassination.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations is actively analyzing financial transactions and communications among the suspects. This analysis aims to unveil the deeper motives behind the shocking assassination. Meanwhile, Were was laid to rest on May 9 at his hometown in Kachien village within his Kasipul Constituency.

The recent arrest of Isaac Kuria marks a crucial step in the ongoing investigation into the assassination of MP Charles Ong’ondo Were. With the number of detained suspects now at 11, including key aides and alleged financial backers of the plot, authorities are mobilizing efforts to uncover the assassination’s full motives and networks. The case has garnered significant attention as detectives continue their search for the truth behind this high-profile murder.
