Thanks to the GPS, the women were rescued through a coordinated operation involving the National Signals Bureau and the Nigerian Police Force.
The rescue operation kicked off after chilling videos of the kidnapping surfaced online, pushing authorities to take immediate action. In the aftermath, police arrested eight individuals connected to the crime across various locations in both Ghana and Nigeria, showcasing the collaborative effort’s reach and effectiveness.
Another notable case involved Adina Akpo Abdou Moudjibou, a suspect linked to a series of armed robberies in Accra. His extradition from Togo to Ghana was announced by DCOP Lydia Yaako Donkor, Director General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID). Reports suggest that Moudjibou, who has numerous aliases, was captured in CCTV footage robbing citizens in high-profile areas of the city such as East Legon and Cantonments. His capture in Togo in January preceded the completion of extradition documents before his return to Ghana this month.
The GPS’s success story continues with the dismantling of a human trafficking ring in Côte d’Ivoire. In a joint operation led by Interpol and Ghanaian authorities, law enforcement rescued 33 victims. These individuals were reportedly tricked by traffickers who promised enticing job offers in Canada but ultimately forced them into captivity in Côte d’Ivoire.
“It’s heartbreaking to note that these victims were coerced under physical and psychological duress, with traffickers even making them take false photos to show off a life they weren’t living,” one report noted. The traffickers had managed to convince vulnerable people, often charging up to $9,000, before luring them into this tragic situation. The operation to arrest the suspects began after two Ghanaian nationals were identified as victims of this scam, prompting an investigation that led to the bust early this year.
