Prior to this, two earthquakes struck about 250 miles north offshore of Petrolia, California, starting with a 3.3 magnitude quake at 2:06 AM ET and followed by a 3.4 magnitude quake three hours later at 4:51 AM ET. These two earlier quakes were located approximately 20 miles apart.

The recent earthquakes in California highlight the state’s seismic activity, with a total of three significant tremors occurring within a short timeframe.
