Dangote Peugeot Automobiles Nigeria Limited (DPAN) is advancing Nigeria’s auto industry with its local assembly of the Peugeot 3008 GT model. This significant step enhances DPAN’s product range and demonstrates its dedication to increasing domestic automobile manufacturing within the country. The assembly occurs at DPAN’s sophisticated facility located in Kaduna, further solidifying Nigeria’s role in the automotive sector.

The Peugeot 3008 GT, an acclaimed SUV recognized for its exceptional design and performance, is equipped with a 1.6-liter turbocharged engine. Previously, the first assembly of this model in Africa was conducted in Ghana in 2022, in collaboration with Silver Star Auto as part of a larger initiative involving Citroën and Peugeot to broaden their presence across the continent.

DPAN initially revived Peugeot’s presence in Nigeria by assembling the Peugeot 301 at its Kaduna plant. Following that effort, the company has expanded its offerings to include the Landtrek pickup, Peugeot 3008, 5008, and now the latest 508 models, signifying growth and diversification in its vehicle lineup.

Dangote’s involvement in the automobile industry dates back to 2016 when a partnership was formed with the Kaduna State Government and the Bank of Industry to acquire a majority stake in Peugeot Automobile. By 2017, a license was obtained to set up a Peugeot assembly facility, leading to the formal operations of DPAN in 2022.

With the introduction of the Peugeot 3008 GT, DPAN is actively furthering local manufacturing initiatives, showcasing a commitment to enhancing Nigeria’s automotive capabilities and stimulating economic growth in the sector. This strategic expansion underscores the importance of domestic production in meeting local demand and creating job opportunities.

DPAN’s local assembly of the Peugeot 3008 GT marks a pivotal moment for Nigeria’s automotive industry, reflecting the country’s increasing capacity for manufacturing. The efforts made since 2016 underline a substantial investment in local production, which not only enhances vehicle availability but also promotes economic growth and job creation in Nigeria. The expansion of DPAN’s vehicle lineup demonstrates a commitment to strengthening the local auto sector.
