Sahil Verma was arrested after returning to India, facing harassment charges from 2022. He had evaded law enforcement by living abroad for nearly two years. Gurwinder Singh, another deportee, was arrested by Ludhiana Police for outstanding warrants related to a snatching case from 2021.

On February 17, 2025, news broke of two significant arrests stemming from immigration enforcement in the Punjab and Haryana regions of India. Sahil Verma, a resident of Pehowa, Haryana, was arrested after returning from the US. He was wanted for harassment against a minor, reportedly fleeing to Italy and then the US after allegedly paying travel agents to escape law enforcement.

According to Kurukshetra SP Varun Singla, the harassment complaint against Verma included allegations that he threatened to kill the victim and obstructed her path. After evading arrest for nearly two years, Verma’s return led to his immediate apprehension.

Additionally, Ludhiana Police apprehended Gurwinder Singh, a 26-year-old man, from the same group of deportees. Singh, from Sasrali Colony, faced non-bailable warrants linked to snatching incidents in 2021. As a graduate and son of a Punjab Police officer, he was charged in two FIRs concerning theft and snatching.

The arrests of Sahil Verma and Gurwinder Singh illustrate the ongoing law enforcement efforts to handle cases involving illegal immigrants with pending warrants. Verma’s case highlights the complexities of international law evasion, while Singh’s arrest reinforces the resolve of local police to enforce justice despite the challenges posed by immigration.
