Police in Niger State rescued Cornelius Damulak, a kidnapped student who escaped from his captors after a week. He was found on February 14, 2025, while walking on Pogo-Paiko highway. Separately, five suspects were arrested for stealing cattle, which have been recovered and are being held as evidence.

Police in Niger State successfully rescued Cornelius Damulak, a 36-year-old student of Veritas University Abuja, who escaped from his abductors after being kidnapped on February 6, 2025. Damulak was taken from his home in Bwari, Abuja, and spent seven days in captivity before fleeing. He was discovered by a police patrol team while walking along the Pogo-Paiko highway, Minna, having traversed several kilometers to escape his captors.

The Niger State Police Command’s spokesperson, Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed Damulak’s rescue on February 14, 2025. Upon apprehending him, officers provided immediate assistance by taking him to a local hospital to receive medical care. Simultaneously, efforts were initiated to contact his family and ensure his well-being following the traumatic experience of his abduction.

In a separate incident, police operatives from the Maitumbi Division intercepted a vehicle transporting stolen cattle on the Gwada-Maitumbi Road. Five suspects, including Mohammed Ibrahim and Ibrahim Yakubu, were arrested. The livestock, comprising 11 cows and 34 sheep, had been stolen from a compound in Kuchi, Munya LGA.

During police interrogations, suspect Mohammed Ibrahim admitted to stealing the animals from a local resident named Saleh, intending to sell them in Minna. The recovered livestock is currently secured as evidence while police continue their investigation. Additionally, efforts remain ongoing to identify and return the animals to their rightful owners.

The successful rescue of Cornelius Damulak emphasizes the ongoing challenges of kidnapping in the region, alongside the proactive measures taken by law enforcement to address such crimes.
