A police officer has been detained in Niger after mistakenly shooting an immigration officer during crowd control efforts. The officer, Christiana Oladimeji, is recovering in the hospital, and the police have provided financial aid to cover her medical expenses while conducting disciplinary actions against the involved officer.

The Commissioner of Police in Niger State, Shawulu Ebenezer Danmamman, announced that a police officer has been detained after accidentally shooting an immigration officer during an operation aimed at dispersing a crowd in Minna. The officer involved is undergoing administrative disciplinary action alongside his colleagues who were on duty at the time.

At an event where he was represented by Deputy Commissioner of Police (Administration) Aminu Garba, Danmamman presented a N1 million cash donation to the injured officer’s family. This financial assistance is intended to help cover hospital expenses for Christiana Oladimeji, who is currently recovering in the Intensive Care Unit of IBB Specialist Hospital.

The incident occurred on February 21, 2025, when Oladimeji was struck by a stray bullet while stationed at the Obasanjo Commercial Complex. The police have confirmed that she is on the mend after her injuries. The Command’s spokesperson, SP Wasiu Abiodun, provided details regarding her health recovery.
