A 6.1-magnitude earthquake struck northern Nepal near Kathmandu on Friday, with the epicenter located in the Sindhupalchok District. The German Research Centre measured it at 5.6 magnitude. No damages or casualties have been reported, though the quake was strong enough to wake residents.
A significant 6.1-magnitude earthquake occurred on Friday in northern Nepal, close to Kathmandu, as reported by the National Earthquake Monitoring and Research Centre. The epicenter was located near Bhairab Kunda in the Sindhupalchok District. However, the German Research Centre for Geosciences measured the earthquake’s magnitude at 5.6 and noted its depth at 10 kilometers (6.21 miles).
Despite the tremors being strong enough to wake residents, particularly in Sindhupalchok, there are currently no reports of any damages or injuries. Ganesh Nepali, a senior district official, highlighted the swift reactions of locals, stating, “It shook us from our sleep strongly… People have now returned back to homes. We have not received any report of damage or injuries so far.”
The 6.1-magnitude earthquake near Kathmandu triggered substantial concerns among local populations, prompting immediate evacuation efforts. Thankfully, the lack of reported damages or injuries suggests that the quake, while strong, did not lead to catastrophic consequences. This serves as a reminder of the region’s seismic activity and the importance of preparedness in the face of natural disasters.
