NDLEA’s Ongoing Fight Against Drug Trafficking in Nigeria: Recent Arrests and Seizures

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) apprehended 42-year-old Angolan businessman Mbala Abuba at Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport for attempting to smuggle cocaine to Istanbul, Turkey. He ingested the drug, which was confirmed by a body scan, and excreted 120 pellets totaling 1.829 kilograms. Abuba claimed to have previously been involved in township delivery services in Angola before engaging in drug trafficking.
In another instance, the NDLEA thwarted a similar attempt by Ebuka Igwe to send cocaine wrapped in vehicle parts from Lagos to Angola. Igwe was arrested following intelligence reports indicating his illicit activities. The NDLEA continues to combat drug trafficking amid recent arrests and seizures across various Nigerian states.
On Sunday, February 23, Ezechi Cyprian was also arrested for trying to transport 5.40 kilograms of cocaine to Owerri, Imo State, concealed in a Toyota Sienna bus. Additionally, operatives discovered 128 parcels of cannabis hidden in mattresses at Tin Can Island port, leading to the arrest of consignee Bamidele Joseph.
Numerous operations across Delta and Edo states resulted in significant drug seizures, including the destruction of over 50,000 kilograms of cannabis and confiscation of various narcotics, including tramadol and skunk. Arrestees faced prosecution for their roles in these attempts, highlighting the NDLEA’s intensifying efforts against drug-related crimes.
In their community outreach, the NDLEA conducted sensitization programs aimed at educating the public about the dangers of drug abuse, reinforcing their commitment to the War Against Drug Abuse. With continued collaboration across states, the agency works diligently to mitigate drug trafficking and its impacts.
