Body of Tirunelveli Man Shot in Jamaica Returned Home After 78 Days
N. Vignesh’s body was repatriated to Tirunelveli 78 days after he was fatally shot in Jamaica during a robbery at his workplace. The body of 31-year-old N. Vignesh, who was tragically shot in Jamaica, has been returned to his hometown of Tirunelveli after 78 days. Vignesh was killed on December 17 when an armed gang invaded the food mart where he worked, leading to a confrontation during which he sustained fatal injuries. His coworkers were also injured in the incident, necessitating hospitalization.
Upon learning of Vignesh’s death, his family reached out to government authorities for assistance in repatriating his body for burial. Tirunelveli MP C. Robert Bruce, alongside local officials, worked diligently through the Indian embassy to facilitate the return. The Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, M. K. Stalin, allocated ₹18 lakh to support the repatriation efforts.
Following the completion of formalities, local leaders, including C. Robert Bruce and G. Ramakrishnan, paid their respects as Vignesh was cremated at an electric crematorium in Sindhupunthurai. This incident has raised concerns about safety in foreign countries and the need for more support for those employed abroad who face potential risks.
