Tragic Discovery: Severed Bodies of Nine Missing Students Found in Mexico

The victims, aged 19 to 30, included four women and five men, and were found near a local highway in San Jose Miahuatlan, situated on the border of Puebla and Oaxaca. The bodies were discovered in the trunk of an abandoned vehicle, covered by a blood-stained tarp.
A gruesome detail of the scene was the presence of a bag containing eight severed hands, along with two additional hands found in the trunk. Reports indicate that four remains were located inside the trunk, while the other five were placed under the tarp, exhibiting signs of torture and bullet wounds.
Most of the deceased have been identified as Angie Lizeth, Leslie, Brenda Mariel, Jacqueline Ailet, Noemi Yamileth, Raul Emmanuel, Ruben Antonio, and Rolando Armando. The group consisted primarily of students, who had traveled from Tlaxcala for a vacation at Oaxaca beaches, going missing on February 27.
The abandoned vehicle, a dark grey Volkswagen Vento, was identified with license plates from Tlaxcala and found approximately 150 miles southeast of Mexico City. Video surveillance captured the car traveling on February 24 along the Atlixcayotl highway, which is about 90 miles from the site where the remains were later discovered.
The violent nature of the crime raised suspicions of cartel involvement, although those responsible have not yet been identified. Meanwhile, the Mexican media reported that the ninth victim is still unrecognized. The Attorney General’s Office in Puebla is working closely with local agencies from Tlaxcala and Oaxaca to apprehend those responsible for this horrific act.
This incident highlights the growing concern over violence related to drug cartels in Mexico. The discovery of the students’ bodies raises numerous questions about safety and security in tourist regions.
