A tragic incident occurred in Karami Rami, Babban Rami Ward, Mashegu Local Government Area of Niger State, where a fuel tanker explosion resulted in at least six fatalities. The tanker, loaded with Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), skidded off the road and overturned, creating a hazardous fuel spill. This incident took place on the Makera-Bokani-Sabon Pegi road while the vehicle was heading to Kontagora, reportedly due to the poor condition of the road.

Eyewitnesses reported that the explosion happened on Wednesday evening, with the majority of the victims being bystanders near the site. Importantly, none of the victims were attempting to scoop fuel at the time of the explosion. Additionally, several individuals suffered injuries of varying degrees related to the incident.

Abdullah Baba Arah, Director General of the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA), confirmed the occurrence of the explosion, highlighting communication issues and unstable electrical supply in the area that delayed detailed reports from the field personnel.

The explosion of the fuel tanker in Niger State underscores the dangers posed by poor road conditions and the potential risks associated with transporting hazardous materials.
