A police detective fatally shot during a confrontation with armed robbers in Bulawayo’s Pumula South suburb was actually killed by a police bullet, her family states. Detective Constable Cassandra Hove, 37, was shot in the left breast, and the bullet was found lodged in her body, as noted in a postmortem document reviewed by ZimLive. She was pronounced dead upon arrival at Flex Clinic shortly before 9 PM.
Initially, it was believed that Hove was killed by the armed robbers she was pursuing. However, police officials have since informed her family that she died from friendly fire. Ryan Gambinga, the family spokesperson, expressed deep shock, emphasizing the family’s commitment to uncovering the truth and demanding justice. “This revelation raises profound questions and intensifies our grief,” he stated.
According to Police Commissioner General Stephen Mutamba, “comprehensive investigations are underway” to determine the circumstances surrounding her death. At the time of her passing, Hove was considering a new career path after obtaining a degree in forensic accounting. She was part of the all-female Lozikeyi team of detectives at Bulawayo Central Police Station.
