Infrastructure Challenges in Nampula Due to Tropical Storm JUDE

Tropical Storm JUDE has led to significant road damage on the EN1 in Nampula, with restoration work beginning soon, although no completion date is set. Other regions are also facing road closures, and emergency kits are being distributed in anticipation of further impact.
The National Road No. 1 (EN1) is currently closed near the Anchilo Control Post due to significant rain caused by Tropical Storm JUDE. Restoration work on the EN1 is set to commence this Tuesday, although an estimated completion date has not been provided.
Faquira Massalo, Director of Public Works in Nampula, indicates that the road damage is substantial. Given its critical importance, efforts to restore traffic will begin promptly. The affected area measures about 15 meters in length and reaches depths of 5 to 7 meters.
The National Roads Administration (ANE) has assessed the site alongside engineers from the contractor responsible for emergency repairs. Their plan includes installing washers to facilitate proper water drainage.
Meanwhile, other regions in Nampula are inaccessible, with road closures reported from Nametil to Angoche, Nampula to Liúpio, and from the Naguema to Chocas-mar intersection, among others.
Anacleta Botão, the INGD delegate in Nampula, stated that comprehensive damage assessments have yet to be completed due to team limitations in the field. However, improvements in weather conditions have prompted preparations, with emergency kits positioned in areas anticipated to be affected.
Severe conditions following Tropical Storm JUDE have prompted the closure of key transportation routes in Nampula, particularly the EN1 road. Restoration efforts will begin soon, although the timeline for resolution remains uncertain. People are advised about other route impassabilities, and emergency measures are being implemented to support local residents.
