Mongolian President Pays Tribute at Poland’s Tomb of the Unknown Soldier

Inscribed on the monument is the phrase, “Here lies a Polish soldier fallen for the Homeland.” Notable inscriptions around the pillars identify historic battlefields where Polish soldiers died in defense of their nation.
Among these, the inscription “Legnica 9. IV. 1241” refers to the Battle of Legnica, where forces under Batu Khan defeated a coalition of Polish and European armies in 1241. At the monument’s center, an eternal flame burns, vigilantly protected by the Polish Armed Forces’ Representative Regiment.
The site is a focal point for military parades and ceremonies, especially during national celebrations attended by high-ranking officials. The tradition of wreath-laying by visiting Heads of State and new ambassadors underscores the significance of the Tomb as a symbol of respect and remembrance.
