Suspect in Campbell Scott’s Murder Dies by Suicide in Nairobi

Police have confirmed the death of Samuel Musembi, a suspect linked to the murder of British businessman Campbell Scott. Musembi reportedly died by suicide on Wednesday after being found unconscious in a friend’s house in Nairobi. His actions are said to have included a failed attempt to poison himself followed by multiple stab wounds to his body.

Campbell Scott, 58, was reported missing on February 17, shortly after arriving in Kenya for a conference. Scott’s body was later discovered in Makueni County on February 22. Investigators allege he was tricked into a false business meeting, leading to his murder. Musembi was identified as the driver of the vehicle used to transport Scott’s body.

Prior to his suicide, Musembi had been hiding at a relative’s home in Dandora and later stayed with a friend who was unaware of Musembi’s involvement in the crime. The friend found Musembi unconscious upon returning home and attempted to get him medical help, but Musembi died shortly after being transferred to Kenyatta National Hospital.

Director of Criminal Investigations Mohamed Amin announced that an autopsy would be performed to confirm the cause of death. Musembi was among three suspects in Scott’s murder, with two others already in custody. Investigators believe the suspects attempted to use Scott’s credit cards in several locations after his death. The police continue to search for Benard Mbunga Mbusu, who remains at large, and has a criminal history dating back to 2018.
