Chakil Aboobacar Elected New General Secretary of Mozambique’s Frelimo Party

He succeeds Daniel Chapo in this position, albeit without opposition from other candidates.

During this meeting, elections for additional Secretariat members were postponed until the next Central Committee assembly, which is scheduled for March. Closing the session, outgoing General Secretary Chapo emphasized the importance of expanding political dialogue beyond parliament parties to include all sectors of Mozambican society, fostering comprehensive discussions about reforms.

Chapo called for a halt to violence and unrest, highlighting that such riots harm the social and economic fabric established over years in both public and private sectors.
