Brazilian Woman Arrested at Mumbai Airport for Smuggling Cocaine Worth ₹10.96 Crore

A Brazilian woman was arrested at Mumbai airport after swallowing cocaine capsules valued at ₹10.96 crore. The DRI acted on intelligence about her smuggling attempts. Following medical intervention, she expelled 100 capsules. An investigation is underway to identify her alleged accomplices and the involvement of drug syndicates.
The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) apprehended a Brazilian woman at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport after she arrived from São Paulo with ingested cocaine capsules worth ₹10.96 crore. Following intelligence reports about her suspicious activities, DRI officials detained her for questioning, during which she disclosed that she had swallowed capsules containing narcotics.
Upon further investigation, she was admitted to a government hospital where, under medical supervision, she expelled 100 capsules that contained approximately 1.09 kilograms of cocaine. The confiscated drugs are classified under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, leading to her arrest.
The DRI is currently conducting an inquiry to uncover potential associates and ascertain if the woman was operating as a courier for an international drug syndicate. This arrest echoes a similar incident from November of the previous year when a Liberian national was apprehended at the same airport with 3.49 kilograms of cocaine hidden in their luggage.
The arrest of the Brazilian woman for drug smuggling highlights ongoing efforts by Indian authorities to combat international narcotics trafficking. The DRI continues its investigation to reveal possible connections to larger drug syndicates. This case emphasizes the persistence of drug smuggling attempts and underscores the need for vigilant security measures at airports.
