Kenyan Police Officer Samuel Kaetuai Killed in Haiti: A Tribute to a Fallen Hero

Samuel Kaetuai, a Kenyan police officer, was tragically killed during a security operation in Haiti last week. His body is set to be repatriated to Kenya for burial, with Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja confirming that preparations have been finalized for its arrival this week.
During a visit to Kaetuai’s family in Naserian village, Inspector Kanja characterized him as a hero who sacrificed his life for global peace. He assured the family that the government would offer full support during this difficult time and cover all burial expenses.
Kanja stated, “We have lost a young man who had sacrificed himself for the sake of global peace. He died while helping restore peace in Haiti and protecting the people’s rights.” The IG was accompanied by several officials, including Deputy Inspector General Eliud Lang’at and State House Controller Dr. Katoo Ole Metito.
Kaetuai, only 28 years old, was shot by suspected gang members while on patrol in the Artibonite region, marking a somber milestone as the first Kenyan police officer to die in Haiti since the mission’s inception. He had joined the police force in 2021 and was part of a group of 600 officers deployed for the Kenya-led Multinational Security Support Mission (MSS).
Describing his son as caring and responsible, Kaetuai’s father, Salaash, expressed his devastation over the loss. He stated that coming to terms with the tragedy is difficult, highlighting the profound impact of this loss on the family.
