Two Westmoreland men, Garfield Campbell and Caswell Sonlin, have been charged with shooting at police while fleeing arrest. They surrendered to authorities days later, facing three counts related to the incident, highlighting ongoing concerns about gun violence in Jamaica.

Two men from Westmoreland, Jamaica, have been charged with gun-related offenses after allegedly firing at police officers. Garfield Campbell, 37, also known as ‘Pete,’ a farmer from Jerusalem Mountain, and 28-year-old Caswell Sonlin, known as ‘Travelle,’ from Meylersfield Mountain, faced three counts of shooting with intent and using a firearm in the commission of a felony.

On February 21, around 5:00 AM, police were executing warrants at the men’s location when they were spotted fleeing. Campbell and Sonlin allegedly aimed firearms at the officers and opened fire before escaping on foot. Following their flight, both men were placed on the police wanted list.

On February 22, Campbell and Sonlin surrendered to police, resulting in their arrest and subsequent charges on March 1 after a questioning session with legal representation. Their case highlights ongoing issues with firearm violence and police interactions in Jamaica.

The two Westmoreland men face serious charges after allegedly shooting at police officers while attempting to evade arrest. Their decision to turn themselves in may reflect an attempt to mitigate further legal consequences.
